Volunteers are a vital element of the work carried out in IWTN member towns and at Adopt a Monuments sites– from the organising of events and fundraising to researching and getting hands dirty with more practical work.

‘Valuing Volunteers: Engaging Volunteers and Building Capacity in Community Groups’ is an upcoming webinar for Community Heritage Groups and Heritage Practitioners from Irish Walled Town Network member towns and Adopt a Monument. It aims to help groups attract and retain volunteers, understanding the value of what they do and ensure that everyone benefits.

The webinar will take place online (via Zoom) on Tuesday 25th May from 10.50 to 1.30 and is free of charge. On the day, the speakers will be:

  • Frances Hayden of the Dublin Volunteer Centre  ‘Attracting & Retaining Volunteers – Building Capacity in your Community Group’.
  • Christine Baker, Fingal County Council Heritage Officer,  ‘Creating Communities: Fingal Community Archaeology 2015 to 2021’
  • Barney Devine, Local Co-ordinator of C2C Project in Fermanagh,  ‘Cuilcagh to Cleenish: Unlocking local rural heritage assets to generate successful community development outcomes’

This event has been developed by The Heritage Council through the Irish Walled Towns Network.
