Friday 22nd September 2023 is Culture Night – Oíche Chultúir and in the Irish Walled Towns Network our member towns are playing host to a huge variety of events, from music and poetry to guided tours and open houses.

In Fethard, you can experience the medieval walled town in a different light with a dramatised candle-lit tour, along with serenading musicians and a cross section of characters from Fethard’s long history. The tour, led by the Fethard Historical Society begins at the Millennium Bridge at 6.30pm and ends at the Fethard Horse Country Experience museum. The museum also plays host to a whole series of Culture Night events.
In Drogheda, Drogheda Museum Millmount is hosting an open evening.
In Fore, there’ll be ceol agus craic aplenty at the Fore Abbey Coffee Shop.
In Kildare, there’ll be Family Story Time from 7-9pm in Kildare Town Heritage Centre (Market Square Kildare town. This will be a multilingual evening with stories of St Brigid in English, Irish and Italian.
In Kilkenny, a packed programme of events includes free admission to Kilkenny Castle, a graveyard tour at the Medieval Mile Museum and of course a great evening’s entertainment at Heritage Council HQ.
With no less than twenty nine events planned, Culture Night in Youghal really does offer something for everyone: from free tours, to recitals, exhibitions and even a treasure hunt.
In Kilmallock, the Friars Gate Theatre will host an evening of traditional dance, music and storytelling.
There’s also a whole host of events taking place in Limerick city – including a presentation on the Black Book of Limerick, as well as events at the Hunt Museum, King John’s Castle and many more.
